chang's thing
Alcohol is known as one of the main reason as to why babies are born with mental and physical birth effects in the United States. Wine, beer, or liquor are also included in the category of alcohol. There are many babies in the United States that are born with birth defects each year. One in every 750 babies are born with a pattern of physical, developmental, and functional problems. The main effect of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is that it permanently damages your central nervous system and your brain. Alcohol causes malformed or underdeveloped brain cells and structures. Some signs and symptoms of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome are developmental delay, low birth weight, poor coordination/fine motor skills, lack of imagination or curiosity, learning difficulties, behavioral problems such as hyperactivity, social withdrawal, stubbornness, and impulsiveness. Usually any problems that have anything to do with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome grow stronger as the child grows up and moves into adulthood. They can include mental heath problems to trouble with the law. Some physical characteristics that Fetal Alcohol Syndrome can include are a smooth philtrum (the small grove or indent about the upper lip and below the nose), low nasal bridge, short nose, small head circumference, small midface, and thin upper lip. A child or infant is diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome when there is a history of alcohol exposure before the baby’s birth, the person has some signs of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and if the person does not meet all the necessary criteria for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. There is no cure for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome but there are treatments for it. Medications can be used to temporarily treat this syndrome. The only prevention of this syndrome are to not drink while pregnant. Although it is found that little drinking while pregnant will not do any harm to the fetus or baby. Only excessive and overdrinking will start causing problems in the baby when it is born. Children born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome has an impact on all the people they come into contact to; not only their parents. Not only does the individual have to face a lifetime of pain, frustration, and disappointment, the impact on all the people around them will also be bad.
