Smart Choices for Lasting Energy

Usually when you eat, the food give you energy and satisfy your hunger. But when do you need energy the most? At 3:00 p.m. Usually between the breakfast, lunch and dinner hours, people tend to get hungry. They don’t eat big meals, but they go for snacks. Most convenient snacks like pretzels and jelly beans, satisfy your hunger, but only for a little while because they consist mainly of simple carbohydrates that are digested quickly, and they make your blood sugar and energy levels go up and down quickly. If you’re in need of a quick snack, pick something that is high in nutrients and are digested more slowly, like whole soybeans, because they make you feel more satisfied and they give you energy for longer periods of time. So if you’re ever hungry between the main meals of the day, remember to look for foods with protein, fiber and healthy fats. They tend to give you more energy and are more filling than convenient snacks.
