It’s Not As Easy As It Looks
Have you ever been to a restaurant and actually thought about how much work it took the cook to prepare what you are eating at the moment? Probably not, as most people do not think about how their food was prepared before they eat it. In fact, it actually takes the cook a lot of work to make a meal. They have to gather the right ingredients, prepare the cooking utensils, and actually cook the food. Usually when we eat a well cooked meal, we do not think about how long it took to prepare. A meal could be eaten in ten minutes, when it took the cook an hour to make. In reality, a cook’s job is one of the hardest jobs to master because they have to know exactly how much ingredients to put into the food for it to taste and look good. A cook’s job is actually harder than it looks.
There are many different types of cooks. One type of cook is called a Prep Cook. A Prep Cook is a cook that is training to become a cook in a professional kitchen. To train to be a professional cook, the prep cook could peel potatoes, chop fresh herbs, mince pounds and pounds of garlic, and dice onions. Another type of cook is the Short Order Cook. A Short Order Cook is a cook that makes simple, fast-cooking meals and snacks. They can also be called grill cooks, fry cooks, broiler cooks, or breakfast cooks. Usually Short Order Cooks work in coffee shops, family restaurants and steak houses. An important skill this kind of cook needs is to know the right way to place food on the serving plate. The last type of cook is called a Fast Food Cook. Fast Food Cooks work in restaurants with a one-item menu. The food is all ready-to-cook and can be made in fewer than 20 minutes. They usually work with grills or deep-fry fryers for fast cooking. Though there are many different types of cooks, they all still have to know how to put different ingredients together to make a meal.
A typical day for a cook usually consists of a whole day of work, usually from ten in the morning to ten at night. Usually it covers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Therefore, the ability of the cook is to also know how to cook the proper dishes for each meal. The job of the cook is to perfectly combine the ingredients and make an actual dish out of them that satisfy the taste of the customer. In fact, when people cook something at home they do not have to make sure that the ingredients are perfect and fit together, while the cook’s job is to check in detail every single food’s features. Being a cook is not a joke, as most people believe, but it has its challenges and hardships.
Overall, a cook’s job is not as easy as it looks. The cook has to know many skills that could take many years of training and practice to learn and master. No matter what kind of cook someone is, the knowledge behind making food is harder to learn than people may think. Also, a cook’s work hours are usually longer than an average working adults and can consist of ten or more hours. In addition, people not only do not realize how hard it is to actually be a cook, but also know how hard the training was to become one. Thus, before people start judging how easy a cook’s job is, they should learn more about the background of the cook, how they got started, and how hard the job really is.
